As I was driving my son to school this morning my speedo broke. There it was sitting at 35 mph then just dropped to 0. Does anyone know what is wrong with it or how to fix it? Thanks!

probably the gearing has broken, unless.....does your abs work? has the little abs/trac light come on? if not, go to fcpgroton.com and get the little gears for the speedo, unless someone has a better suggestion.

This can be caused by the speedometer sensor failing.
It is located on the rear axel on the back side of the differantial.
I do not know how you can check if that is cause but you can try replacing it.

I just fixed mine last weekend. It was the wire at the rear differential, which I found broken off at the plugin for the sensor.Crawl under and see if thats your problem.Once I was able to unclip the plug I soldered the wires back on and my speedo came back. good luck with that-geo

Is the odometer working? If not, then it may be the sensor signal missing.

But if odometer works, and speedo not, then some electrical components in speedo are dead (I have had this in our 740, it started with speedo failing intermittently).

Used 1991 740 speedo is not very easy to find as it was only for a year or so when that particular Yazaki instrument panel was used.

They have these every now and then in Ebay. Make sure you get the correct year cluster.

I have kind of this problem with my 90 760. The abs light is on and the speedo does not go above 30 mph.

Thanks
