I filled my car to the brim with diesel this morning and pulled out of the petrol station up a big hill with my foot down. The warning display came up with "engine system service urgent" and the management system seems to have limited the power to 2500 rpm as it won't rev any higher than that.

If I switch it off the error goes away until I put the engine under load at about 4000 rpm.

Any ideas?

In the last year I've had 2 intercooler hoses, an intercooler and an injector and I'm getting seriously fed up with this car.

Luckily I also have a trustee Honda C90 which has become my regular emergency transport!

Well the car is back and the problem fixed.

I took it to my local Volvo dealership, they detected that the main fuel system had low pressure and they started by replacing the fuel filter and filler cap which had no effect.

They contacted Vovo technical who told them to insert some clear fuel hose in the main supply line to check for air when the fault occurred, air was present.

They then decided to replace the in-tank pump which had no effect and then replaced the main fuel line from the tank to the engine bay which had no effect.

They used a "donor car" from their own used stock and tried replacing the main high pressure fuel pump in the engine bay. This as you're imagining had no effect.

They then re-loaded the software onto the main engine management control unit which had the effect of making the engine run much more smoothly but the fault was still there.

They replaced the fuel pressure sensor somewhere in the fuel rail/line, this had no effect.

They then tried a donor control unit which Volvo gave them some special software for so that it would be accepted onto my car as a trial and this had no effect.

The next step was to replace the fuel in the tank as the fault occurred when I re-fuelled. This had no effect.

Volvo technical then said that the only other thing it could be was the fuel injectors; these were replaced with new ones and guess what!!! Problem solved.

The bill in the end was for £4200. I obviously nearly had a heart attack and the dealer reduced the bill down to £2952!

It's got to have an MOT this afternoon, please will you keep your fingers crossed?!
