i have a really bad oil leak. i'm not 100% sure but i think its coming from on of the metal pipes that connect to the turbo or are near it. i couldn't fit my camera in there to take a pic so that will have to wait. and i need to complelty wash the engine to be sure its coming from there.

anyways, when the car just sits, there is not a drop of oil. and i use the volvo maybe like once a week. but when its running, it just drinks oil. i drove from seattle to LA a couple weeks ago and during that 15-20 hour drive i added 3 or 4 quarts or oil. and thats not normal. I drove my POS 87 truck and only added 3/4 of a quart on the whole trip.

what do you guys think it coupld be? like i said, it kinda looks like its around the turbo but i'm not 100% sure.

thanks,
dan

i'm not sure. what do you consider smoke? it kinda does when its running in the garage. but not when i drive. or at least there's so little that i dont notice it.

if this helps, i've gone through a couple exhaust tips and the car has 135k on it. i dont know whats with the exhaust but it just eats the tips. and its louder than stock i think. i really like the sound but i dont think its stock. idk if that helps or not. i'll try to get a pic of what i think leeks.

ok i got the pictures and i'm 100% sure its that pipe. i started the engine and got under and i just saw drop after drop come out. and when i gave some gas my dad said that the drops got faster.

its the bigger metal pipe that goes from the turbo to the engine block. i dont know anything about turbo's so i have no idea what it is. and its facing away from me so i dont knwo how it connects to the engine. does it screw in? is there a rubber gormet? and how can i fix this?

thanks,
dan

Are you sure about it?
Well, it could very well be the turbo hose gasket/o-ring, but another common area is probably the oil-sump gasket/o-ring as well.

That above, is of course, after assuming that you coolant is clean of oil and your engine oil is not chocolatey-like.

You probably need a flame trap (aka: breather, oil trap) replacement. This component is extremely underdiscussed yet key to 80% of oil leak problems in 850 model. It sells under $50 and can be bought on ebay etc.
