I'm replacing the mirror glass on the passenger side mirror on a 04 XC-90 (memory w/o folding) and there are two spring like pieces of wire on the back of the mirror. I am wondering where they set into inside the mirror housing. It looks as if they are to add some tension but I'm not quite sure how. I did also post this in the XC-90 forum so I hope this isn't considered cross-posting.

Thanks!

I just completed the same replacement on my 01 XC70. I folder the springs back and slid the mirror into the housing (springs first). They catch against the inside of the housing and create tension as you fold the mirror back and snap in place. Just line up the tab on the mirror mount as you slide that side into place (spring side) and push slowly back to snap the other side in place and you'll feel the springs working.

I'm a newbie on this one myself, so if anyone thinks that's wrong please shout out.

The passanger side mirror on my wife's 2001 V70 is cracked and needs to be replaced. I tried pulling on the top and on the side, but couldn't get it to budge, and I don't want to break an internal part. Does this model come off a different way, or aren't I pulling hard enough?

Thanks

I believe you pull straight back on the outside edge of the mirror glass - mine was hanging off when my wife presented it to me so I did not get to remove it but that is what I found as I scoured the net.

And thank you dkja, after using your experience and once i figured out that the "springs" were shipped flat and needed to be "snapped" upright (perpendicular to the glass) it went together like a charm.
