The only way i can describe the noise is like when you blow up a balloon, pull the neck apart , let some air out and it kinda squeaks. Well thats the noise i get from behind the dashboard somewhere when ever i turn the engine off.The noise aint loud, lasts about 2 seconds and fades to nothing .
Probably wont do nothing about it if i can help it ,as it would involve getting behind the dash, but i would like to know what it is if anyone knows

Does it only happen when you have the A/C on? I've never heard this in my Volvo (my A/C doesn't currently work), but in my Audi that I used to have I heard something similar to this. Does it seem to come from the right side of your dashboard? Sound like it comes out of a vent sort of?

What I always thought I was hearing was the A/C condenser (that silver can on the right side by the firewall) heating up and releasing some air pressure or something (I never really thought about it too much, tried to figure out the mechanics exactly). If it doesn't happen if you don't have the A/C on before you shut off the engine, I would say it's probably that.

Either way, it's not a sound that I would worry about too much, it doesn't sound like any of the serious sounds.

Nothing to do with the AC. It comes from the dash on the drivers side and it sounds like some sort of a buzzer is powering down. Not worried about it,just curious is all :)

oh, sorry. now when the sound occurs, you weren't using the a/c or the vents? the reason for my asking is i had the something similar with my other 850 R that turned out to be the a/c system releasing pressure, with it on or off. the seals were going bad, but since i was going to rip out everything anyway, i figured, what the hey? i just told my wife it was her. of course i don't remember what happened next except i woke up with a black eye and a bump on my head. she said it was the bean burrito she had eaten. see, a little of everything. beer time!!!!!
