I have a buddy that is a mechanic and me and have been going back and forth about a 88 740 being interference or non interference motor. He gave me a timing belt book manual that says that pretty much all of volvo's motors are intereference and that in the event of a timing belt brake the pistons and what not will slam together causing you to need a new engine. Can someone settle this for me and let me know the models that are interference.

Not sure about the 740 buty my sons 850 and my S60 are both interference motors. I would guess that yours is also.

As far as I know the 740 b230k which is the 2.3 pierberg carburettor version is the only interference engine throughout the engine ranges.
