Today my 2004 S60 made some type of loud humming noise. It was almost like a siren. It was raining outside and it happened as I was coasting at about 50 miles per hour. As I came to a stop the noise stopped and hasn't happened again. Any ideas?

How loud was it? Do you know where it was coming from? Has it ever happened before?

I'm not a car mechanic nor volvo guru, but I do know that mine often makes a low humming noise - even with the engine off. I've never considered it a problem because many cars, volvo included, have fans that spin to keep the car cool (or in some cases pumps to keep the car warm from freezing). The only possible thing I can think off the top of my head is that it was a fan running even if the AC was off.
