I'm trying to replace the standard CR 814 (head?) unit with something that will play CDs. I realize that there is a changer, but I don't really want that, just a basic CD/Radio. I've tried looking around to find some help about doing this, but nothing really seems to be getting me anywhere, except that I think I need to do something about changing my harness? I have to admit that I don't know much about cars, and so far nothing I've read has pushed any closer to the right direction. I don't have any specific unit that I want to replace it with, like I said just something basic, and cheap. So, if anyone could offer me any help in this matter I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

You can buy a harness adapter off of a website such as crutchfield.com will will change from the volvo specific plugs to the universal DIN standard which all head-units are meant to comply to (except manufacturers).

Once you have that adapter you would be able to go to, say, wal-mart and buy a cheap cd unit and put in.
