i'm selling my moms volvo so i needed to get rid of the SRS light. it was crashed when we got it and my dad thought that he never put new airbags in it. so we got some at a junk yard and when we took it apart, it had airbags. but the problem is, there is no wire that goes to the passenger airbag. i've looked everywhere and now i'm just cofused. the junkyard cars all had a purple or red connector that was clipped into this hole:

(IMG:http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i4/effdbmx1/100_0701.jpg)

but i have nothing there. i mean nothing. i looked around for any diconected wires and stuff and theres nothing but the two wires for the light. but i did notice a purple connector with orange wires in another place:

(IMG:http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i4/effdbmx1/100_0700.jpg)

and i'm an **** cuz i didn't take pictures at the junkyard so i'm not sure it this was on the cars or not. i dont remember it but i cant be sure. anyways, the orange wire on the left leads to the airbag sensor maybe? i'm not sure. and at the right, it leads to another connector but in orange and then keeps on going to the front right part of the car.

my question is, where could the wire for the passenger airbag be? i ran out of ideas ...

thanks,
dan

if the car was wrecked, who did the work and removed the bags? if it was done by the insurance agent/body shop, the wiring has to be there. if it was removed by a junkyard or previous owner, check farther down in the space there. i would say give it a shot with that connector, but remember, disconnect the battery first in case it blows in your face. not fun, trust me. good luck and keep us posted.

well my dad did all the stuff and he says he remembers having trouble with some wiring so he just left it. but that was like 10 years ago so he's not sure.

and what do you mean give it a shot with that connector? its connected to a wire already...

ok i got some more pictures.

my dad went back to the junk yard and said that the orange wire on the left side was clipped to this hole:

(IMG:http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i4/effdbmx1/100_0701.jpg)

take a look a this pic of my my volvo so you under stand what i'm talking about:

(IMG:http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i4/effdbmx1/100_0705.jpg)

my dad said that the orange connector was there and the wire went on to the fender or whatever. but it wasn't connected to the purple connector. he said it went somewhere and he couldn't see where it was connected. he said he checked the exact year and model (94 850 turbo) and then a couple other 850s and all of them were the same, only ours is different.

and the weird thing is, all of it is clipped in with factory ties and clips. nothing looks touched by anyone...

you guys have any ideas? or does anyone know where the orange wire on the right leads?

thanks

I dont know if this is useful information to you, but there are versions that came with just 1 airbag for the front. Mine and most of my friends here, has only 1 aribag. In those cases, there is a possibility that the wiring had even been 'blocked' or somewhat restricted and 'ended' from factory.

But for your case, i would say looking hard for it.

I do have an airbag, a few actually, but none for the dashboard for the passenger.

You may need to contact the dealer for his experience. But something tells me the guys in Gothenburg would know best cos they set the marketing policies for countries, and my BET is that for the US, they have put in ALL the airbags they could possibly put in. :)
Like if they can put in an airbag to the bumper to soften a collision, they would.

My car is also an 1995 850, and a few months ago when I had to tear out the dash cover to replace my odometer gear, I had to alo go in and remove the connection to the passenger side air bag. The first picture you show, with the empty hole, is precisely where my air bag connector was held in place with the oem plastic push clip. It was easy to remove and I did replace mine just a it was, however, that plastic push clip can be easily broken when trying to get it out of that hole.

It is possible that someone has had to remove it before and broke the clip. If I recall properly the wires you show by the air bag (already connected) look like the same connectors my airbag has. If someone did break the push lock clip, then they may have simply relocated the wires where you see them now to keep them from flopping around.

It appears in your econd picture that everything is upside down, or yout ook the picture with the dash completely removed and laying upside down (or just trying to shoot the picture through the glove compartment box from the floor board, so it is a bit backwards looking to me.

One clarification here, I just realized you provided two different 2nd pictures and you seem to be on the right track, as they both look very similar to what I remember my air bag connector to be (I just dont recall whether it was purple or orange, but I believe it was orange). It did have the rubber boot around each end of the connector though as both the ones you picture have.

I will have to pull out my glove compartment again to know for sure, which I will be doing soon to mount my USB and IPOD connectors for my new head unit. If you still havent figured it out by then I will try to remember to get some pictures and post them for you to compare to.

Ok I opened up the glove compartment today while getting photos of the stereo install I did and got a picture for you to hopefully compare to. Maybe this will help.

Here is the smaller picture

(IMG:http://www.blakbyrd.com/Car/AirBagConnector_sm.jpg)

Use the following link for the large picture with some notes on it thatmight be helpful.

Large Photo with Notes

My air bag wire/connector is an orange wire with a set of purple quick disconnects on them (connectors have the rubber boots on them). It looks nearly identical to the purple connector wire you show in your photo as well, but mine is mounted in the proper location hole as you showed.

Hope this helps.
