have a search around here for ignition amplifier, this i can probably 100% garuntee will be your problem, exactly the same car as me and problems when i had it, i spent far too much and it cost me pocket change to fix.

It will be in the 740 forum - here, or references to it in the 940 forum too as many people have had this problem.

Hello, I have quite the same car and the same problem. After driving at fairly good speed for some time ( for example three hours )the engine seems to heat up and the gas is cut.
Last year I had this problem in the south of France and nobody could find a solution. Back in Belgium the problem was still the same. After some time we had removed the device that is supposed to prevent from the famous "Air lock" in the carburettor. For one year it worked well but now we have the same problem again. Some say the carburettor has some leaks inside and should be replaced. Who has some more experience with this problem?
Any help will be welcome.
Reginald

Thats cleared that up for me :) Years ago cars used to have a metal cylinder about an inch long with 1 wire on the end that used to fit in the distributor . It was called a condenser/capacitor, and it amplified the ignition spark....... I must try harder to get modern
