Hi Everyone,

I'm a non technical S80 driver. I used to think our local Volvo dealer gave me great service until one day he wanted nearly £450 parts and labour to replace an electric window mechanism that a mechanic mate fixed in 18 minutes without any parts. It made me wonder how many other times I'd accepted their recommendation and been charged an arm and a leg for unnecessary work. Having said that, the car has been very reliable for the last 165,000 miles (serviced by a local independent at half the price of the main dealer).

Unfortuately, it has just developed a fault and the boot will not unlock with the key fob and I can not find another way to open the boot. Am I being stupid or is this a design fault? I can not get the car to a garage (either independent or a dealer) for at lease five or six days as I am travelling every day. I am using the back seat as a boot for all my kit but I don't like leaving it on display. Is there anything I can do to get the boot open and working again? :57:

Many thanks

On the S60 there is a black rubber strip between the license plate lights. If all the doors are unlocked and you push this strip, it will open the trunk. Also there is a hole near this strip for the key, I assume if all else fails.

Thanks S60 R, after reading your post I looked very carefully and found a small black clip-in cover next to the boot release (which is normally out of site). I prised the clip off and found a keyhole behind it! Result :) Thanks again.
