Hi Neoroony

I'm a newbie aswell, but I've just had a similar issue on my 2.0D. I had the car serviced and when I got it back there was no punch to the engine. The garage put the car on the computer, and an error on the Turbo control unit showed up. The unit was fine before the service, so the garage checked the pipes and cables in the engine. had a test drive, but I couldn't hear the turbo. The garage did find the issue. Behind the inlet manifold is a turbo control unit, with pipes that must measure the air pressure in the manifold etc. One of the pipes had gone soft with the heat of the engine, and come off. The garage replaced the pipe and hey presto the Turbo was back. The car was a real dog with no turbo tho.

Hope this helps

Ouch!

the magic computer says:

Particulate Filter
Particulate Sensor and wire
£980 fitted

Oh and the steering rack is leaking
£1200 + Vat + Fitting

2 months old bought from Arnold Clarke!

Anyone know anything about a particulate filter?

Particulate Filter:

sits before the cat on a V50. Reason being there isn’t enough pressure at the cat for it to work. Most cars with a particulate filter have them within the cat. Not the V50.

Particulate filter further controls emissions by adding an additive to breakdown carbons within the exhaust fumes, the resulting white dust is caught by the filter.

The particulate filter additive should be topped at each service and the filter changed at 72k miles.

This is my very simple understanding, if anyone would care to add or correct please do.

So the final thoughts by the gagrage carrying out the work are as follows:

£64 new sensor fitted
£79 new wiring for sensor fitted

If problem not resolved then likely hood is that the additive has not been topped up and the particulate filter is shot as well.

£480 + ancillaries fitted.

Hope this helps others, as noob Volvo owner I'm finding hard to gather techinical information about the V50, maybe I'm looking in the wrong place or Volvo owners dont really want to repair and modify there cars.
