Hi im new to forums so bare with me.

Have a few questions about my new car if anyone could help me that would be great.

I recently bought a 2002 v40 t4. Ive been using tesco super unleaded 99 RON is this the recommended fuel?

I fitted platinum sprak plugs and while fitting them 2 of the old ones had oil on them and didnt seem to be tightened correctly. i fitted new platinum plugs and the car started fine and i drove to work. in the morning it struggled to start and the engine managment light came on, when i did get it going it seemed not to be running the turbo and the engine light was on. the light has now gone off but car seems a bit funny? should i replace the plugs with genuine volvo plugs?
any other advide u guys could give me about getting the best out my t4 would be great!!

Any help or advice would be great

cheers

Harry

Hi Harry,i thought ANY car in the UK was made to run on Regular (95 Ron)
Did you just fancy changing the plugs, or did you change them because the car was not running right ?

not sure on the plug types chap, but tescos, or shell (v power)fuel is the good stuff. Ideally t4's should really run on the higher grade fuel as the engine feels better for it and doesnt coke up as much (which can be a very expensive engine rebuild to fix).

okay, am i not reading correctly, or did you just say that two of your plugs had oil on them? and you are wondering if you should change back? dude, you've got oil on your plugs. check the new ones. are they oily also? get that checked, the hell with the plugs. no wonder your car is running like crap. come on man, you want to pay for a rebuild or something.

why what does it mean if i have oil on the plugs? the oil was on 2 of the plugs which seemed pretty loose when i took them out?

what would cause the plugs to be covered in oil?

and i would prefer not to pay for a rebuild!!!

cheers

correct, are the new plugs oily also? if so, you blew a gasket since you are getting blowby.

Fitted new volvo spark plugs, new plugs were not oily, i think some oil may have leaked down to the pugs when the previous owner had been doing an oil change.

Car is running a lot better on the volvo plugs!!

The plugs were probably just a bit wet were combustion hadnt occured properly due to the looseness. T4s like either genuine Volvo plugs or me and some others run NGK iridium IXs which have been faultless also, anything else and they can play up.

Always run super unleaded in the T4(its ecu is mapped for it) it will run on lower octane fuel but will use alot more fuel(even pootling around) as it has to retard the ignition to stop detenation. So there is no saving just less power on 95ron.
