Hello All,

Brand new to the forum, I've had a look all over the forum for this fault but not found anything to cover it off. My car is a 2001 T4 which has never skipped a beat in the 1 year I have had it.

However I have noticed over the past week that the car has a misfire when 1st started, this lasts for around 20 seconds and then dies off, although I am sure that it is evident when idleing as I can feel vibrations when sitting in the car which I dont remember previously! There is also a notable amount of black soot on the exhaust tail pipe, evidence of the misfire I guess.

Anyone had a similar fault? I've had Iridium plugs in the car for about 6k and I am wondering if these are at fault as I have read elsewhere that the the T4 prefers genuine plugs. I am also suspecting ignition coil pack, but no eng/man light on which I would expect!

Any help appreciated to get the car running as sweet as it used too!

Ive ran the same NGK iridium plugs in my T4 for over 20k and they havent skipped a beat. Would be worth talking yours out and having a look at them for damage. What make are your plugs as I have seen problems with the tips of denso irdium plugs falling off. When you take the plugs out have a look at the coil packs as well for damage/cracking as they can play up.

Hi Dandle,

The plugs are NGK, i am suspecting coil pack but the fault only appears to have started since the NGK's were fitted.

Where is the best place foil coils? Want to keep away for the stealers if possible.... Would a faulty coil store any faults if I have the system checked?

You can get new coils here http://www.partsforvolvosonline.com/produc...roducts_id=5731. Normally though if it was a coil playing up you would expect it to get worse as it gets hotter not the other way around. Have a look at the plugs first as it may well be worth changing them to start with, you might find one is loose and thats the problem. Misfires should be storred as faults in the ecu if you can get access to a fault code reader.

Cheers again Dandle,

Noticed the coolant was low today during the weekly oil check. Topped it up, took about 1ltr.

This is where the issue started, I have noticed over the last few days that the cooling fan would run off after stopping the car, not heard that before and the car didnt seem too hot on the temp guage.

Anyway I thought i'd air on the side of caution and get the RAC out, he checked the car out and says he suspects that the head gasket has gone. There is not water in the oil but he says its probably leaking water in to the bore causing the misfire I guess??? Gonna run the car to the garage tomorrow a.m and see what they say!

Anyone any idea of a cost?
