I figure these questions have already been asked, and I'm going to get "use the search"!! replies but hey, I'm a newbie.

I am planning a v8 swap. How strong is the IRS in a 760? Is the diff(center section) the same as the one in a 740? (1030, 1031, Dana 30) How much torque can the irs diff/axles handle?

I would prefer the ride quality and handling of a 760, but maybe the solid diff of a 740 would be stronger for the torque of a v8 (around 400 ft/lbs).

Regards,
Marty

as for the swap, the kit that you will be using to do this should have all the info needed.

i have looked into this A LOT, i could dump ALL my knowledge here but it would take serious hours to write up in legible form for you. The best thing i can recommend is google 'volvo v8' or along the lines off.

You will find lots of people who have dropped ford 305 lumps in with no problems (though using the diesel 7 series chassis as the diesel is a heavier engine.

As you mentioned about the rear diffs .. i will assume you have thought all about fuel supply, brakes (trust me on that one), gearbox, suspension AND all the associated costs of fabrication for parts etc... an all the extra bits that might come up along the way. i think turbo bricks site has a section on v8 conversions.
