idle is set by the computer at 750 rpm. +aircon 900rpm no user adjustment. emission adjustment last resort on AMM. Assuming good exhaust system.... Read whole below list, pick the easy ones first and do them in a sensible order. clean flame trap and oil separator, (do NOT undo 2 lower bolts on idle air solenoid bracket-engine weight will twist brackets out of alignment! Difficult fix!) check AMM to see it's ok and connected properly, check air filter, and induction generally for leaks-may have to remove parts to examine concertina hoses properly, check throttle body and the switch adjustments - & for wear. check fuel pressure. check engine temp senderS. check crank angle sensor for good connection. check spark plugs for condition, age and heat range. Esp furthest one must be clean. it's the first to get trouble on most such motors. check oil level, cleanliness and viscosity. If it looks thin and weak-change it & filter immediately for good quality oil, Penrite or similar. report back pls.

So far I've changed oil (20-50w)...wagon had been sitting for about three years being warmed up ocasionally.
Flame trap was clogged up, it's now clean including all its hoses.
Spark plugs look good
Air filter is new
Cleaned throttle body...t was pretty dirty
Verified all hoses. One in the cold start valve was loose.
Cold start valve is operating
Added a fuel injector cleane in gas
I've checked all conncections, including grounds, ECU, etc... except the check crank angle sensor and the coolant temp sensor you mentioned...will do tomorrow
I also need to check the fuel pressure.
After all this it seems better, but it idles hi at round 900...AC off and still rough and stalls now and then cold.

I'll keep you posted.
Thanks,

Vic

The rough idle has pretty much gone away. I assume old gasoline and maybe varnish has been cleaned up by the additive I added to the gas and more fillups with new gas.
The problem now lies upon accelerating the engine hesitates. If I puch it harder she pulls away ok. It's just if I take off slowly.
The idle is still high...close to 1000.
Any help appreciated.

Thanks,

Vic

non turbo models sometimes have a coarse idle (mixture and speed) adjust knob on underside of the throttle body. Make sure your throttle butterfly is properly closed/does not leak (much) AND the microswitch adjusted correctly. Then adjust your linkage correctly. CO adjustment is via the potentiometer hidden under a sealed plug an the AMM. Plug to be drilled out and replaced after adjustment. There is a black(=invisible) shaft in the tachometer coming into the cabin from the cluster-but I haven't found what it does yet. My attachment is for an 88 240GL, B230E but should be enough to guide you.
