On my Right hand drive 940(dont know where it would be on US car)there is a noise behind the glove box that sounds like a tiny compressor pumping .Its not the fan motor ( also behind the glove box) as the noise is still there with the fan off.Any ideas what it is and can it be quietened down. Test drove a few 940's before i bought this one and cant say i noticed this pumping noise in any of the other's 'although you got to own a car a few weeks to be able to pick out background noises.
Any help from anyone would be welcome

its most likely to be the drain pump for the internal air con radiator.

under it will be a tray where moisture collects and the little pump just flushes it out. If you look under the hood on the firewall passenger side about 1foot and a half ish there should be a half inch diameter rubber pipe coming through (i think) which then drains off somewhere.

I can attach a pic later as i have no dash in my car so you will be able to see what i am on about.

Infact in my sig below ... link to my 940 on there (i think once again heh heh) there should be a pic of inside and you can see the big white canister that holds the air circulation unit and all that jazz.

Thanks Matt. Still not sure what you mean even though i can see the big plastic container in your engine. I was going to look for this drain hose in my car but its chucking it down here so will look tomorrow. Is there any way to quieten it down do you know ? and should it be pumping all the time !!

Thanks for your trouble and time Matt  Do you know if this little pump can be accessed if i take the glove box out or is it one of these jobs where you got to gut the inside of the car to reach it.

that is sat right behind the glove box, it was revealed to me when i did remove the glove box, i cant remember if there was anything else to remove though. I wouldn't recommend removing it though.

remove the glove box and use that open space to have a clean as well heh heh, i found about £3 under there ;) bought my mc Donald's for the evening :)

also use the opportunity to check wiring and anything else and also to pin spot the noise.

Dropped the glove box and the noise is buried behind a thousand wires and stuff. You Southerners must be richer than us up North,i did,nt find bugga all...... not even a dried up crusty leaf Vicr.
I will just put up with the noise, OR, wrap my car in a plastic bag and put it in the freezer as i heard that cures everything
