Hello Everyone. I’m new to the Volvo forum and I must say that I’m glad to see that one exists. My issue is what I think is the alternator belt tightening bolt. I’m having trouble keeping my battery charged and wanted to start with the easiest/cheapest options first. I friend of mine tried tugging on the alternator belts last night and thought they were a little loose and may be causing my alternator not to turn and high revs. He suggested tightening the belts, showed me the bolt to turn and sent me packing. I got home, tried tightening the bolt and broke it off in the housing.

The bolt is the 10mm, about 6 inches long bolt that I think tightens the belts. It broke of about an inch below the head. How do I get the rest of the bolt out? Thanks to everyone.

The adjusting bolt is clamped to the alternator adjusting plate by a nut (13 mm head). Your friend should have told you to loosen this nut before turning the adjuster. It's easy to remove but don't loosen it until you have a new adjusting bolt to replace the broken one. You can either get a new bolt from a Volvo parts department or get a used one from a junk yard.
