Hey Guys,

jsut to clarify

will the B230F out of the 1989 740 GL writeoff i bought plug up to the wiring inside a 1986 740 GL also with a B230F

the only reason i ask this is that the 1989 is fitted with the on board disgnostic LED system

will i need to transport this to the 86 as well essentially turning it into a 1989

and im assuming the ECU from the 89 will need to go into the 86

correct me if im wrong please :)

Regards

Dale.

i would have thought so yes. If its a different injection system then definitely. I would do it just to be safe personally. Though i dont think much should change.

You say it has a cracked head .... cant you just replace the head?

well it does hav e some funny sounding bearing ratlle as well and the oil warning comes on and off esp under acceleration which makes me think the engine is borked at 300 odd thousand kms its pretty safe to say its done its job LOL

there are a few wiring differences between the 89 and the 86 esp the alternator the alternator in the 86 has some funny looking 3 pin plug where as the 89 dosent they are all bolt on

a few things are looking strange but im sure its doable

also the 86 dosent have the over drive button and has wind up windows is that common i thought all the 740's had power mirrors and windows and the O/D Button

very wierd first one ive seen that dosent

well i didnt think to replace the head as the engine has the milky oil all thru it

but it does have other aging issues so i think ill just do the swap

im gunessing i can jsut put the sensors from the old head into the head on the new engine to solve the difference in wiring and use the alternator and all that from the old engine to put on the new 1

just a thought

true, true. could just replace the block and head but use the injection etc...?

just throwing idea's around here that could/might save time ... don't know all worth a try.

Hey Guys

Ok As For The Gearbox Its Running The ZF box not the AW71 Usual Box that was used that explains the missing overdrive button on the gearshift.

and aparently at time of purchase you could opt for electric or wind up windows got me buggered why someone would want wind up LOL if your gunna buy a 740 new do it in style LOL
