Hi All,

I've recently bought a set of 2007 rti dvd's to upgrade my 2003 system. The product number is 31260747, which is the correct upgrade according to two different dealerships I spoke with. My original dvd is product number 30657541.

But the disc doesn't load (I get dvd cannot be read message, contact dealership). So I checked this with the local Volvo parts department and they tell me I need the car into the workshop to fix the software in the dvd player. When I asked what they need to do I'm told "The software comes from Sweden (surprise!) and is matched to the car."
"Is it a firmware upgrade?", I ask. "No, it fixes the dvd player" he says.

I can't get to the dealership (30 min drive) during the week and Saturday morning the kids need a lift to swimming. Can anyone help?

The software version in help-about is: 638 and hardware version is: 0030679455A.

Thanks in advance,,
Steve

Steve,

I'd put money on this being a dirty lens on your DVD reader. I had the same issue when I tried to upgrade. Initially I put it down to having used a copied disc and thought I had wrecked the firmware. Took it to the local delearship who said it was a hardware fault and would need to buy a new unit - at a cost of £1,150 (excluding labour and new software)!

Then I got my indepedent specialist to take it apart and clean the head (i had tried a non-Volvo cleaning disc to no avail). It works fine now. I think the action of putting in the new disc must have dislodged some of the dirt inside the unit. All it cost me was an hour's labour but if you are a competent DIYer it's quite easy to do it yourself.

Hi Pilgrim Tim,

Many thanks for the reply. I do have a volvo cleaning disc which I've used but to no avail. I may try the more drastic approach and take it apart. I'll post the results if I do.

Cheers,
Steve
