Hi, I'm new to this site so forgive me if anything similar has ever been posted.
So here's my problem, I was having problems (high whining noises though not the belt, and low resonating noises) with my car and couldn't figure it out, though finally realized that it was due to my Tranny Mount being completely destroyed, the low noise was from my engine leaning on the firewall. Anyway, I finally replaced the Tranny mount, but because it took so long to diagnose, we would turn the car on and let it run to listen for the problem and find out what was causing it. During the process of running it to figure it out, something must have happened, cause the last time I had it running it started to smoke (possibly just from the WD-40 that we sprayed on it burning away) so I turned it off hastily and didn't try to start it again for about twenty minutes, and when I did it wouldn't start, I'd turn the key and the dash lights would come on but not a damn sound from my engine, it wasn't even trying to turn over. So anyway, I left it alone for the most part until we replaced the tranny mount, but when I tried to start it after we replaced it, still absolutely nothing. I do not know very much about cars and am clueless as to what to do. I've tried hotwiring it and I get strong sparks but stil nothing, so it's not the ignition itself, the problem must be somewhere down the line in the wiring somewhere.
So please, any helpful suggestions welcome and very much appreciated.

Don't assume its a wiring fault cause you see smoke, like you said it could have been the WD40 burning off. What did the smoke smell like !, as hot plastic has a distinct smell.
Might be wrong but i thought DL was diesel so not sure what you mean by hot wiring it and getting strong sparks.

I used to have a terrible whining screeching sound from the passenger side till i got divorced :)

Yeah, well the high whining noise from the passengers side I can't get rid of so I'll just have to live with that I guess lol. But I'm pretty sure the sounds I was describing in my last post are fixed now since I replaced the Tranny mount, but I won't know unless I can get it to start which is my current problem. Also my DL is a Sedan and it's not Diesel, and I also have a rigged up second ignition which I'm sure is part of my problem, but it was never a problem before. And by hotwiring it I mean, I took a short piece of exposed wire and touched it to where the wires connect to my ignition, more specifically the wires that go to the Battery and starter, which are the ones to connect to get it to start without the key, but like I said, still nothing. Thanks for your input.

with the key in the start position, check for 12V at the small wire on the starter - I think its blue and yellow???

You'll want a volt meter - did you bypass the ignition switch? Why?

im a little confused. when you say it wont turn over, do you mean the starter does not turn the engine, or does the starter turn the engine but the engine doesn,t run? also, you are moving in an unorganized way. there was smoke and there had been a broken mount with the engine rubbing against the firewall. stop. check for a shorted wire before you start a major fire. this could be extremely hazardous. judging from the history, my first thought is that a wire did short out. potentially extremely dangerous. once that is proved or disproved, then proceed to whether starting system problem or fuel, ignition, or compression problem. do you have a volt meter? please be careful about bypassing. i think you should stick to basics here.

The original ignition just crapped out on me about a year ago so a friend of mine rigged up a second ignition for me, and for that to work, I had to leave the original key in the original position and keep it in the third(on) position at all times (whether the car's on or off) so I could then use the second ignition to start it, and turn it off (most of the time, sometimes I would have to pull the wire off the coil (the end closer to the battery) to get it to stop and yes I'm trying to fix this as it is a major problem). And as far as a volt meter goes, I'm already trying to get it back from a friend of mine, but I'm pretty sure that the problem isn't the electricity getting to the ignition from the battery but more that there might be a short in the path FROM my ignition.

Sorry for the confusion, my only problem now is that it won't start, as far as every other noise and problem, I mentioned those simply to give a timeline of events leading up to my current problem just in case it could have been caused by those previous problems. And as for what I mean about it not starting, I mean the starter won't even try to turn the engine, I turn my key to start the car and only my dash lights and stuff come on, not one noise from the engine, not even a click. So thank you very much for your input, I do intend to be extremely careful when dealing with the wiring, and also intend to make sure all the wiring is pristine before moving on to try to diagnose any other problems. So now that I have attempted to clear things up a bit thank you again for your suggestions, and hopefully you now understand a little better so if you have any more input please feel free...nay compelled (lol) to share it with me.
