Recently our S80 (2.4 non turbo) has developed a stalling issue. The car starts normally and ticks over smoothly; as soon as the clutch is released the car stalls. (This rarely reoccurs after restarting). New plugs fitted and throttle body cleaned. This used to happen very occasionally but now occurs at least one a day.
Any Ideas or suggestions welcomed

I too, also have the exact same problem on my 8-years young, 2000 S80 2.9L with only 47,000 miles on it!!! (Not to mention the: 1- Volvo recall throttle replacement problem on 4 separate occassions; 2- brake calipers/ball joint damages; and 3- faulty ABS).

Despite of the fact that I've religiously had the vehicle maintained by a Volvo dealership on all repairs and even oil changes --- Over the last 8 years, I've spent almost $17,000 on repairs ($10,000) and extended warranty contract ($7000)... I am not even including the frustrations and much time spent with "recall" repairs!

The dealership (Hassel Volvo in Glen Cove, NY) even had the nerve to charge me on: 1- throttle "recall" repair and 2- cooling fan "recall" item); and made me wait over a year to get a reimbursement.

I am seriously thinking about getting rid of this S80 and replace it with a Lexus!

:( Certainly you've had a lot of fustration as well as expense..I know if it were me I'd feel the same, probably worse....
From what I've read these past two years here on the forum, the '99-2000 and 2001 S80's had lots of issues, that newer models (S80's) did'nt have...
When I bought my Volvo, had no idea of their track record and as luck would have it mine fell into the later model catageory..(Not that I hav'nt had some issues but I did purchase the 2 year 24,000 mile additional warranty and have used it twice).
If I had known Volvos were such a high maintenance vehicle, would never had bought..
Although on the flip side of the coin, they can be a blast to drive, especially the turbos...Have never driven a faster stock vehicle and gives me great pleasure,
(When I feel sure the cops are not around) to completely smoke some of the Mustangs and a few others....I don't do this often and certainly not when the wife
is along..With the price of fuel its a rather foolish thing to do...
BUT, The Volvo can be a lot of fun...
I sincerely hope you've ironed out most of the troubles with your car and can now enjoy driving without holding your breath that something else is going to break..
Hopefully others will chime in and help you with the stalling problems..I hav'nt a clue without actually driving the vehicle.....Good Luck
