hey there,

i just drove a '94 850 turbo wagon that was for sale outside a "volvo only" mechanic. it started right up, drove great, tracked straight, sounded great.
i'd never driven a volvo and was impressed...
it had new tires, and the guy says he has the service records for it for the last 6 years or so.
it has 185,000 miles on it..
he's asking $3000.
thoughts?

carfax it, if it all checks out, offer $2400.00 make sure about the timing belt. check to make sure that the abs/traction module is good. does it have a sunroof? if so, check under the back seat mats. does it smell like mold? if so, the drainage holes for the sunroof are clogged. i could go on and on, but hey, do you like it? if so and the carfax checks out like the mechanic says, go for it. good luck. hope to see you posting as a new owner of the 850 turbo.

Overall the 850 is very comfortable, enjoyable and different rival to a BMW or Audi with added safety and practicality. Don't let the image put you off, you would be surprised how much respect people give it. Try one, you'll love it!

In fact the hardest bit of the ownership experience is when you have to sell it, you won't want to get rid of it!

It might cost an arm to service, but worth every penny.

They dont make VOLVOS like they used to!

wouldn't work, you would have to change over to RWD. now a 240 dl with an LS1, that's the way to do it. paint it brown, leave on one hub cap and go hunting  better if it's a wagon. with an honor student sticker on the back. and maybe a bicycle on the roof. how about white with a blue door and a brown hood. super stealth mode.

QUOTE(kmamerow @ Apr 24 2008, 03:08 PM)
he's asking $3000.  thoughts?

I've been actively looking at turbo models recently. In my area (pacific northwest) a car LIKE that would be a pretty good find, even at 3k. Not high, not low, clean, good driver, with records. I emphasize 'like' because most cars here have no rust and good paint. That particular car might not be so lucky given where you live, and as such wouldn't be a deal here. Regional variation, but not out of line.

I've seen a few pretty sad 850 turbos in the $900-1500 range in my area. Still had no rust and good paint though.

look, at any place in the US, a car like the one pictured, offered for $3K wouldn't last very long. the first guy who didn't buy it would kick themselves in the butt. i've seen crappier ones for double that. and they sold. hell, my R i got for cheap because the guy needed cash. the second one i paid a little too much for the condition. it is all relative. if the person likes the car, no amount of talking about price points and locations is going to do anything to change their minds. check out the car and make sure it is what it is purported to be. everything else is minor. good luck kmamerow

Yeah, I'm thinkin the car in the pic wasn't the car in question. If so, I think we'd all jump on that pretty quick.

the only way we, as a forum, would jump on something quicker would be that same car with salma hyack, jessica simpson, pamela anderson, nicole kidman, or any of those super hot woman were naked in the front seat. hey, if it was the wagon, they could all get in there. wow, it sure is hot in here. i'm going for a cold shower.
