Hi Thanks for all previous suggestions regarding my 940. However I am still baffelled as she still refuses to start.

I have replaced the spark plugs, fitted new plug leads and made sure there was fuel in her.

I have power at the coil and when the HT lead is put to earth I have a spark. I checked that fuel was getting to the injector rail and there is plenty and good pressure. There is spark at the plugs although I am not entirley happy with it.

I have removed the air-flow meter and cleaned it also. I have even tried some easy start down the air intake but still nothing!

I have checked the pulses to the injectors with a noid light and this is also fine.
I have swapped the rotor arm & distributor from my running 740 and this made no difference. The cap & rotor arm from the 940 I put on the 740 and that still works fine.

I did not know about the built in diagnostics on the 940, but since locating and with the relevent information to hand I checked it and it indicates that "NO FAULT FOUND"

Now I'm really starting to get a little peeved with her. She has fuel & Spark but refuses to even fire.

Just to remind anyone who read my previous posting, the LAMBDA light came on a couple of days previous to the car packing up. I had been told that this does NOT always mean the lambda sensor is at fault but can mean an engine management fault?

The only thing I have not tried is swapping the ignition module/amplifier on the n/s inner wing to see if that cures the fault.

Any further ideas? and how would you know if it had gone into limp home mode and what do you do to cure it?

Thanks Wayne

with the ignition amplifier you would still have spark but it would be intermittent. Has the lamda light gone off?

If you leave the battery disconnected for an hour or so it should clear any faults being stored indicated.

its cranking but not firing up ... i am stumped mate if everything else you have checked is fine then it has to be the IA

Hi, thanks for the suggestion. I disconected the battery before I went to work this morning (8.30) and when I got home I swapped the ignition module on the inner wing with that on my silver 740. The 740 statred fine with the 940 module and its still fitted now.

After fitting the module from the 740 to the 940 I then reconected the battery. the 940 however still refuses to start, it does however try to fire when you stop cranking the engine. Sort of misses/runs lumpy for a couple of seconds.

I have now removed what I believe to be the ECU from under the dash on the driver side and hope to get another ont with which to try.

Any other thoughts / suggestions?

Thanks Wayne

Hi. Yeah this is the weird thing. I spoke to a VOLVO repair centre and they say that there WILL be a fault code. As the lambda light is on there should be a fault code for this but when I follow the procedure for checking faults I get 1 1 1 this means no fault found. Now I'm really confused.

I am now looking at changing the Crank sensor & the coolant sensor (the car did get quite hot at one point (leaking radiator) I thought maybe the sensor was now faulty stopping the engine from actually starting?

Also since swapping the IA although my 740 works fine with the 940 module, the 940 now pops/kicks back? as though spitting back into a carburettor when you let go of the key. only does this for a second or so.

Other than changing these sensors I am out of options. Had thought about changing the ECU under the dash but was told it probably is not this as I have spark and fuel.

Looking for a wall to bang my head against now! lol

Cheers Wayne

maybe your timeing belt broke?
Any way, grounding the spark plug wire to ground is not a good practice, use an extra sparkplug to check for spark.

Hi

had a similar problem with my 940. Tracked it down to the main fuel pump where the power lead was so corroded it wouldn't carry enough juice to run the pump. Try pulling fuse 11 (internal fuel pump) and cranking the motor with the fuel rail disconnected - if no fuel, then you've found the snag.

Does the RPM sensor test OK? This is another show stopper if it fails.

regards
Chris
