The front speakers (door and dash mounted) on my 93 850 are cutting in and out, mostly out. When I adjust the volume it sounds like it creates a short. A rough road does not seem to have any effect on what appears to be a loose connection. Any suggestions? How do I access the wiring?

wiring would probably be accessed by removing the headunit ... covers in the drivers/passenger footwell ... speaker grilles and speakers.

though the exact running of them in the 850 i would not know, but it will definitely be in these area's.

use a small screwdriver, cover the head with tape to keep the sharp edges from messing anything up. pry up a corner of the speaker covers and pull off the cover. then unscrew the speakers. look to see if the connections are okay on the back. if they are, pull out the head unit, like syko suggested, and see if the connections in back are okay. it might be that your speakers are on the way out.

Thanks for the help. I pulled the speakers, all good. I pulled the radio and found no obvious wiring problems. I checked the output from the radio to the 10 pin connector; four of the pins gave either 6 or 12 vdc (cheap meter, hard to read) while two pins gave only half that voltage. Makes me think the radio is the problem. All the fuses are okay and I swapped the relay to the rear speakers with another relay with no luck. Bummer!

i seem to remember a thread about someone who opened up the head unit and found that there were little fuses that had burned out in there and that he changed these little fuses and fixed the head unit. can't remember which model he had, though. you can always give it a shot if you think the radio is on the way out. go to a junk yard and get the connectors for the radio and splice it in. good luck and keep us posted.
