Hi everyone :P . I have a problem with my radiator, seems i have a little crack or something...i tried 3 different glue types but it still kept leaking. Eventually I ordered a new radiator. When i opened the hood and took a closer look, i saw on the left side of the radiator 2 pipelines going through the radiator and heading all the way somewhere under the gearbox. I checked on the new radiator and blowing air through one of the holes i noticed that air came out only through the other similar hole above, so i guess the 2 pipelines direct a cooling fluid or something. My question and worry is: what do the pipelines contain? is it a liquid under preasure? maybe it's just car "gas" huh?

those 2 extra lines are for your automatic gearbox. the gearbox runs with oil in it at about 80-100psi which is a lot of pressure! it piggy backs inside the radiator to cool the oil down, it gets really hot when under pressure.

these lines should not mix as if they do it can cause all sorts of problems with your gearbox and engine.

you missed what i meant.

The auto gearbox oil shares the radiator with the engine coolant.

there are 2 seperate lines inside that radiator ... They can easily be broken. If those two substances should mix eg. The oil and the water

1. Water will get into the auto box, screwing up the filters and pistons and seals, thereofre knackering the box.

2. Oil will get into the engine coolant system and decrease its cooling - therefore overheating.

Usually these radiators are pretty decent and will last a lifetime to be honest.

The only thign when your changign the rad is when your changing the oil lines for the gearbox, let the car sit for a few hours if it has just been run so it all cools down and the pressure in the box drops. If that oil is still under pressure even say 10psi and its still hot, it can give you a very nasty injury if you undo those pipe locking nuts.
