Quick body integrity question in the long run.

I bought my S40 in august 05 so it's been about 2 years and a half and except for some of the recalls and few bugs many of us have had I haven't had much trouble with the car aging which I was pleased. But recently I have this very annoying squeak sound when going over a series of defects on the pavement or when turning right or left.

The noise is like a piece of scotch tape you would slowly pill away.
It seems to come from the transition between the windshield and the plastic trim at the base (inside the car).
For a moment I thought tat may be it was my wipers aging and sticky on the windshield but the sound remains when using the wiper blades.
It also seems to come from the all length but I can't know for sure. Has anyone had had similar issues.

Soon I must take it for its annual inspection and for service as well but if someone has had this issue it could help me orient the service man.

I had a similar problem with my 2004.5 S40. I ignored it and it got worse, with the squeaking sound getting louder and happening almost all the time. Turned out the plastic bearing at the top of one of the front struts was dried out. They had to replace the whole top of the struct - labor and parts was $190.

I'm only about 20,000 miles. Do you recall after how many miles you had that problem. It seems to me that this kind of stuff should not happen after only 20,000 miles <_<

I noticed the squeak around 50k, but it might have been there longer (loud music, eh?). So yes it might be bit early for yours, but at least it is a simple check by your mechanic. My mechanic told me the struts Volvo uses are NOT the best - the bearing is plastic and can dry out very fast. It's not really a safety issue, but just an annoyance.

I go to a local Volvo only repair shop not associated with the dealer (dealerships never seem to know what is really wrong) and the mechanic knew right away what the sound was - and it was just exactly as you have described (especially the turning right or left). Since they fixed the strut I've not had any problems or squeaks.
