Hi

I bought a 2002 S40 T4 about 8 months ago and. I've been noticing a whining noise from what sounds like the turbo. This usually happens between 3k-4k RPM when I'm just starting to give it a bit more gas. As I press the accelarator harder the noise changes pitch, and if I give it enough gas the noise goes away, but as soon as I let of the gas again the noise comes back again. This is unlike the normal turbo noise, it's a loud piercing high pitched noise. Does anybody have any idea of what can be causing this. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Also can anyone give me an indication of oil usage on these vehicles as I have also noticed that my car uses a bit of oil. Is this normal for these vehicles? How much oil usage would be normal / abnormal.

I seem to have the same problem. I had my turbo checked by a turbo specialist here in South Africa and he tested my turbo and gave it a good look over and he found no fault with the turbo. He couldnt tell me however what causes this phenominan.

The only thing he says that he can think of is the actual impeller making the noise as it spins up.

I know its most probably not much of an answer but if he is right its a start.
