Hi everyone. I am new and glad to be here. I just purchased a 1991 740 2.3L and so far really enjoy it and hope to fix it up. I am wondering if there is a good place to get after market parts, such as a hood, door panels, ect. I am also curious how to read codes. Do I need a code reader? I am not sure since its before the code readers were able to read this info. Thanks

you can get code readers off ebay and such like if you google it.

as far from what i can gather about your aftermarket body panels like hoods door panels etc... are you meaning body kits? rear bumpers, front splitters, side skirts etc...?

For the 740 they are very very rare, and usually only available on order ... I have a few websites in my inventory at home with body kits for 200/700/800 and 900 series but you mind have trouble udnerstanding them ... they are in swedish/norwegian.

Matt.

Thanks for the info. I did find a front drivers fender, bumper, and some other stuff from a junk yard. I am still looking for some other odds and ends such as a rear window, grill (hopefully aftermarket) and some other stuff. Do you know if I can put a turbo on it? Mine is the 4cyl non turbo. Thanks Chris

You can put a turbo on it yes ... but it is about 20 times cheaper to buy another engine already with turbo on it.

otherwise you have to consider all of this: !!!

>Turbo unit itself
>new exhaust manifold
>new down pipe
>intercooler
>associated intercooler pipe work
>creating oil feeds for the turbo
>creating coolant feeds for the turbo
>new head gasket - most likely
>different clutch plates - not really necessary but you will burn otu your NA clutch in 5 seconds
>bigger capacity fuel injectors
>a Turbo ECU
>BIG WALLET

And then ocne you have all of this you must also consider labour costs for fitting it all together and getting it working ... allf or the sake of maybe 30bhp more.

believe me i have done my research into fitting turbo's to an NA car ... its a lot harder than boltign it on - which is what everyone thinks.

I am in the uk and i got a qutoe from my specialist performance mate and he said he could do it for labour only if i got all the bits (about £1500 for parts - about $2500-3000 US) and £2400 labour ($4000-5000US). And i have heard that your labour costs are astronomical.

Oh and as an after thought, you will have to change your compression ratio, which in the na engine is about 12:1 ish i think ... my 2.0 turbo is 9:1 ...

Aftermarket Grill: probably best to make one yoruself, go to a diy store and find some decent strong wire mesh or something off the net maybe ... remove the grill from its frame and attach it with rubber stripping and adhesive.
