Hi this is my first post on this forum. Has anyone any idea of price for having the head gasket replaced. I dont think I could manage the job myself as it looks fairly complicated. the model is a 1996 3l 24v 960 estate. Its in good condition and I am reluctant to part with it. Also does any one know of a good garage to do the job in the Leeds (UK) area. Thanks in advance for any replies.

this is the V6 motor isnt it? if it is be sure to find out which side it is (both if your unlucky) as it will reduce your costs. usually the gasket from gsf is about £40. obviously the labour charge is going to be quite high. i would say about £350. If you value your car over £1000 i would def do it in my mind.

sorry i cant recommend a garage near leeds. i know a good one in farnborough near me though heh heh

Here in the states, to have a private garage do that would run in the neighborhood of $1,400-2,000 USD, with the falling value our dollar, wait a little and it might be cheaper to ship your vehicle over here to get it repaired.

I have done a head gasket on mine, it was not too bad, didn't have access to any of the special tools so there were a few work arounds. The special tools were fabricated in my garage. It would have made it easier and quicker. Cleaning the mating surfaces had to be the worst part of the whole process.

that is a ridiculous amount of money compared to what i pay here!!! even what i pay here is considered extremely cheap (cos i have friends in a volvo specailist)

at conversion thats about £600-£1000 ... anyway this isn't helping as i am not experienced witht hat engine :(
