Last July I bought a 2004 C70 from Northpoint Volvo in Alpharetta Georgia. This Volvo was a Certified Used car. Since I bought it I have been surprised at the condition of a "Certified Used Volvo" 3 light bulbs were burned out when I purchased it, the driver side vanity light was not working and required replacement of the entire sunvisor to fix (this was miss ordered so I had to come back twice). I was and still am missing the tool to raise the top manually even though I have asked for it 3 times and to top it all, about a month after buying the car the shelf under the glove compartment fell off and hit me in the foot while my wife was driving. But all in all these things (except the missing tool) have been remedied over three trips to the dealership. The real problem I have with my C70 is the rattles and squeaks. I have owned two other convertibles (a 1988 Toyota Celica and a 2002 Mustang GT) I have also driven a 1986 Triumph Spitfire quite a bit. I can honestly say that this Volvo C70, that cost roughly twice as much or more than any of these cars, has more squeaks and rattles than any of them. The two squeaks that bother me most are: #1 behind the driver's seat the door and the door jamb sound like a Styrofoam cooler & lid rubbing. Whenever I accelerate, decelerate, hit a bump or pot hole, turn, etc it squeaks. I have had it into Northpoint 3 times and the last time the Northpoint Volvo Service Manager told me it was due to the Volvo's safety features. He said since the car was built loose so it squeaked & rattled. Funny how the other side doesn't squeak?? I guess the passenger side is not as safe! The other squeak #2. is in the dashboard behind the speedometer. The Service Manger just told me he could not fix this one. I guess once a "Certified Used Volvo" is sold the minor annoyances don't matter to the dealership.

Bottom line is I have wanted this car for a long time. I almost bought one new in 2004. Then they quit making the soft top. After owning the 2002 Mustang for 5 years I longed for something with less plastic, less muscle and more luxury. So I looked at the Volvo C70 again. I found a nice looking one and bought it at Northpoint. Since then I am a prime candidate for road rage because of the squeaks I am always on edge. Can anyone shed some light on this for me? I did have a private mechanic look at it and he noticed the driver side door was 1/8" proud of the car body so he adjusted the bracket on the door jamb back toward the car interior. This helped clear up a lot (more that 3 trips to Northpoint Volvo did) but it still squeaks.

Thanks in advance for any help

you know, if i had only looked for your other post, i wouldn't have sounded so stupid on the other post. i tend to look less stupid. anyway. contact volvo na, let them handle your dealership. in ny, if the dealer can't remedy a problem within three visits, then they have to provide you with a new vehicle comparable to the one with the problem. now, if the door was out of alignment that much, crap, that is a safety issue that should have been brought up with the better business bureau. call volvo na, and let them have it. no way that you should have to deal with crap like that. imagine if you mounted a machine gun to your hood. now that's road rage

I have the same problem with my 2002 C70 and it drives me mad! I discovered that the squeak in the door is caused by the graphite and metal that adjoin each other when the door is closed. Spray silicone, WD-40, on the lock located in the door jamb and the clamp located on the door. I carry a can in the glove box and a rag to wipe off the excess. It needs a spray about once a week and the car still sounds like a bucket of bolts when I drive over the slightest of bumps. I'm very disappointed in this car and ready to trade the POS in. Good Luck with your car.

Greek Mason & TddyKGB, Good Advice, on both hands. I have an appointment tomorrow at Northpoint Volvo. 60K check up. If I don't get satisfaction it is off to Volvo NA! I will go that route for a while but like you TddyKGB I am fed up. I bought what I thought was a my first real luxury car and what I got was a bucket of rattles. I dont even have to go over bumps to get squeaks. Just the flex in the car starting off from a dead stop makes this thing squeak and rattle. I have to say that if I don't get this fixed soon its off to the Audi dealership. I'm thinking convertible A6 might be better. And I have to say if Volvo NA is monitoring this forum, my wive loves the XC80, but why go through the frustration??? So far every time she starts talking SC80 I tell her to drive my car for a day. It dampens her desire to say the least! Volvo has been VERY DISAPPOINTING thus far!
Thanks again you guys.
