I just noted my right rear shock leaking as I was changing my pads/rotors. Has anyone here changed the rear shocks on their XC90? If so, how painful is it to get access to the top mount, how do you get there, etc?

Did some hands on research this evening, this may be of use for someone in the future.

I have a 3 row xc90. I accessed the rear shock by:

1) tucking away the third row seat
2) pulling the carpet in the same area forward to reveal the sound deadening layer
3) pulled the sound deadening layer forward as well

**another option at this point is to cut a hole in the sound deadening, but that would be less elegant.

This reveals an oval plastic cap which is glued to the top of the shock mount. Remove this, then another plastic cap, and voila, there's the top of the shock. Plan on changing it tomorrow.

Alright, changed them in about 5 min once car was up on the lift and wheel was off.

Definitely DIY job.
