Sometimes when the heat is on or the ac I can smell the coolant. I have a 1995 Volvo Turbo (Intercooler) and the coolant I am told needs to be flushed as it is dirty (mechanic), but the faint smell concerns me. There are no leaks on the floor or anywhere else it appears. Does anyone know if that is the result of dirty coolant or is the heater core about to become an issue?

If you're smelling coolant then the heater core is already an issue. Next will probably be coolant in the floor pan.
