hi to all, we are having some problems with our 940 2.3 estate, it doesn't seem to have alot of power. my 2.0l 850 leaves it for dead, surely it should be the other way round.
We tow our caravan and the foot is on the floor and it only does 50 tops, even without the van on its very poor! going up a small incline and it needs to go down the box to get up any suggestions.
we have changed the air filter and it is slightly better , but it still is very poor, we bought the 2.3 for more oomph but it doesn't seem to have it!
we had a 2.3 auto but that was a 740 and that did have the power, so we thought a 2.3 manual would be better but that is not the case
hope someone can help us out save my poor 850, towing to devon and back several times from north wales!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

slipping clutch? dragging brakes? cracked distributor, vacuum hose split, plugs, injectors, ht leads .. have you checked these?

just to let you all know, i replace my air filter and it was the type that had a furry bit on it, as i replace old for new not knowing any different, and it was still running poor wheni say poor it didn't have alot of power to pull up hills so i decided to take the furry bit off the air filter and whoom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it flies like a rocket now so it just shows so anyone out there who thinks there car is slow and doesn't pull as well as it should try taking the filter out and if that makes it better take the furry crap off and it should be 100% better. :460:  :P

glad you solved the problem. The panel air filters are rubbish anyway. if you want more power get an induction kit and mount the air filter infront of the radiator like i have so it gets COLD air drawn in over it all the time, ok it needs cleaning every month ... but for the sound and extra power its worth it ....

I think that locating the filter in front of the radiator is probably the worst place
since you get hot air, you need to somehow get fresh air from outside of the engine compartment.

you have mis-read what i said. infront of the radiator means at the front of the car behind the grill. that way cold air is always fresh over it.

air > grill > air filter/cone > radiator > engine fan.
