Hello, I've just bought a V70 D5 (185) and am looking for a good remap for the car, I like the idea of these portable ones you can switch back to the original map and update from the companies websites but was looking for peoples experiences of them to make my decision as to which one to go for. Have tried searching for the topic but didn't find much. all help appreciated

Danny

see, not sure about in scotland, but to actually have the ecu reprogrammed and then to change it back makes no sense. usually, you get the reprogramming, or the chips, and then all the rest that needs to be changed. ex. injectors, exhaust, etc. now, you change back to the original program, and everything is ****-up, meaning, nothing is in tune because you went back to the original program. by D, i take it to mean yours is diesel, correct? i was always under the impression that it was just a pressure modulator that was changed on those engines to produce more power.

It is indeed a Diesel I have no intention of changing anything other than the map which should provide at least about 30 hp and up to 50 ft/lbs. Being able to put it back to standard means that the dealer can service the car unaware of the change of map so they don't get pissy about warranty issues should they arise.

see, here in the US, the dealer can't say anything about any mods unless it is detriemental to the longevity of the engine. if they can prove that the modifications done to the ecu or any mods to the vehicle, unless the parts are illegal, caused the vehicle to expire (break down) only then can they void the warranty. not sure about the UK though. sorry. but go for the remap. 30 hp and 50 lbs torque is nothing to sneeze at.

But that's the beauty of it compared to getting a new ECU. It's my understanding that you can go to the company's website and update your ECU thru the PPC for upgrades. FWIW, at least on the R, I can't remember seeing people upgrading the injectors for typical mods.

If you need to go to the garage for other work, you can program it back to stock so they don't know you had the ECU upgraded.

i understand that part, but they can't anything here in the US about mods to the ecu. i got the part about downloading the ecu, but if you don't change the injectors, etc, what good were the mods? i'm sure that the parameters on the given range for each injector is taken into account, but still. some of these chip guys are telling you about 100 hp increase. without an upgraded injector or fuel pump, how? isn't your widebody R running a chipped ecu, granted it's for racing, but it is the same thing. you wouldn't run the old parts with the new ecu because it wouldn't make sense, and that is what i was getting at from the beginning. sorry, just hard headed.

I actually agree with you Greek, but the stock injectors --at least in the R-- seem to be able to handle upgrades pretty well. I'm by no means an expert, but looking further into it I have not seen alot on injector upgrades. It usually seems to be when one gets into big-time mods.

I found these archived on Swedespeed regarding turbo upgrades...
""On the injectors, I can't exactly remember but the stock injectors are capable of handling approximately 420ish crank hp (90% duty cycle), about what the GT28R is capable of producing. Also the larger 750cc injectors cause a rough idle, atleast so I have been told. ""

http://forums.swedespeed.com/zerothread?id...d=664700#664700

Also...
""So you can match this GT28RS with that adapter with some new oil & water lines, a new downpipe (modified) and you are ready to go. MTE already has a tune for it and you can use the stock injectors.
FMIC is also highly recommended""
