one website I read reccommended starting off with say 1 or two litres of veg oil mixed in with the diesel, and gradually build up, remembering you can get away with a larger proportion in the summer when the veg oil runs thinner in the heat.

hi there

I too have a 440 TD and am interested in running it on veg oil. Does your car have a bosch pump or a lucas CAV pump? The bosch pump is ok on veg oil but the lucas pump isnt. Im currently looking into the pump type for Bosch, if it is a rotary bosch pump then it is fine on veg oil.

you may want to look at a two tank system whereby the car starts on diesel and runs on diesel for a few minutes when you complete your journey. Saves risk of clogging the pump with the more viscous veg oil esp in cold weather!!
