We were driving back from Newcastle and it was raining down round Hurstville way and some bloke in front stopped suddenly.
The volvo pulled up and stopped ok, but I could see the fellah behind me wasnt going to make it.
I let the car move forward as much as I dared so I wouldnt hit the fellah in front, but some the doodle head behind me slammed into the volvo and there was that horrible breaking of glass, plastic and crumpling of metal you get to hear.
Everyone in our car was ok.
I became instantly sad tho, thinking about repair bills and insurance companies.
Pulled off the road, and got out to ask the driver of the other car if he was ok.
I could see as I walked to his new nissan maxima had a bent up bumper bar, a broken headlight, a bent up bonnet, a creased guard, shattered grille.
Turned to my volvo and all I had was the shattered remains of his headlight on my bumber bar.
Not a flipping scratch!
He couldnt believe it.
I swapped insurance details and the like, but I dont think a claim will be required.
"next time I buy a volvo" said the dissapointed Nissan owner.

Still horrible to have the crash, but happy no volvo damage. :460:

My wife drove our old nissan 100NX into the back of a volvo 240 saloon at 25ish mph.
The front of our car was mashed, £2000 repair bill.
The volvo didn't have so much as a scratch on the bumper.

That sold me on them. The only non-volvo car I've owned since is a Land Rover Discovery that I bought last summer.

We've had a couple of knocks in our Volvo's, a VW Sharan wrote itself off by running into the back end of our S40, our boot lid looked a bit wonky, but apart from that you had to look hard to tell it'd been hit. S'pose that could've been partly down to our reversing sensor (tow bar).

High Five ;-)

Stu.

Volvo for life, isn't just a saying. Glad to hear you weren't injured.

Just more proof that we aren't kidding when we say that it's almost impossible to destroy a volvo.

Had a similar experience years ago with my first 240. It was one of those situations where I stopped in the rain at a light with plenty of distance from the car ahead and the guy behind me hit me, one one behind him, hit him and so on. After the third hit I was pushed into the car ahead of me and he hit the car ahead of him. When it was all done there were 7 or 8 cars smashed up front and back. The State Patrol man stood there beside my car and looked at the cars in front and behind me all smashed up front and back and he looked my little 75 Volvo in the middle of the mess with no visable damage (I think the back bumper didn't stick out quite so far as it had by maybe an inch). His response? "I'm getting one of these!" The best thing was no injuries.

I've seen and 85 sedan which was hit at 60kph whilst stopped by a Jap car. no injuries, but a crease in the rear wheel arches both sides is the only obvious sign of damage, a slightly bent chassis.
