Hey guys, I have a problem. My 2004 Volvo S40 1.9T needs a new battery, and I can't find one at the local car parts stores (the battery books go blank when I turn to the Volvo page). I know this topic has been addressed in other threads, but those threads don't give a direct answer as to where I could go to get a battery for my car.

That being said, I hope someone here can definitively answer BOTH questions:

1) Does an aftermarket battery exist for my car? Or must I go through the dealer?

2) If an aftermarket battery exists, could someone actually point me to it, preferably by providing a link?

Thanks, guys. After I had trouble starting my car in a bad part of town, I realized that I need a new battery immediately or I'm stuck at home. And yes I'm sure its a battery problem, in case anyone asks.

Thanks in advance! :gitara:

I got mine at wal-mart. The book doesn't say it fits but it does. Just match up the group size number you have.

Volvo batteries suck, mine didn't even make 3 years. If your's is bad you should be able to get one at the dealer for a discount price. They have a pro-rated warranty on the battery. Should only be about half price. It was easier for me to get mine at walmart because my dealer is over an hour away from my home.

Hey guys, if you live in the US and you need a battery for your S40, AutoZone has you covered: http://www.autozone.com/R,APP334896/vehicl...oductDetail.htm

If the link stops working for some reason, the battery is a Duralast with the following specifications:

Part Number: H6-DLG
Weight: 41.667 lbs.
Warranty: 8 YR
Note: O.E group size: 48 *** 600 cold cranking Amps (750 cranking Amps) *** -> 3 year free replacement <-

The item is a special order option and is not available in stores or online, but they can deliver it to your local store withing a business day, at least that's what I've been told. But call your local AutoZone first and ask if they or any nearby stores might have one. A store on the other side of town had mine, and it was special ordered for someone who didn't bother to pick it up, so I snagged it.

The battery is $109 + $12 fee (only if you don't return your current battery to the store for disposal) and is maintenance-free.

And yes, it fits perfectly and despite what you'll read in some of the Volvo forums, there's nothing holding the battery in place and its a piece of cake install.

Thank you everyone for your help.

Is a piece of cake to fit but there should be something there to hold it in place. A little plastic clip that clamps the battery secure. A loose battery is a hazard.

Yeah, mine doesn't have a clip either. There's simply a tray with some raised edges for the battery. I haven't had any problems with the battery ever coming loose, nor have I ever owned a car with a battery clamp, as far as I remember.

9444282 is the part number.

It is against the law for a car not to have a battery that is secured in blighty!

I agree that the batterys in a s40 dont have room to move much and slot into the ridges of the tray. But the part number above should be present to lock it in place.
Not unusual for it to be missing.

Would not loose to much sleep over it being missing, just pointing out that it should be there.

on my 850, it doesn't seem to have a clip, neither does it mention one in the manual. anyway, if the cops can catch me to see that there is no clip, i'll take the ticket. yeah, i know, big talk from a chef. hey we can all dream can't we

Hi, first time posting.......I work at a auto part store here in the Bay Area (Livermore) for the answer to the battery question. My AC Delco battery book says its a group 48 a VERY common battery for any auto part stores. I have 15yrs automotive parts experience - so if any of you have any other question I would be more than happy to help :57:

By the way I have 4 batteries in stock!!
