I am the owner of a XC90 2.5D.
This vehicle stopped to start 3 weeks ago.
The starter electric motor is running but the motor is not starting.
My XC90 is now in the Volvo garage but they don't know what is the problem except that it is a software problem.
In that case the garage has to follow the Volvo procedures.
That means Volvo (Sweden ?) tells to the garage what to do, the garage do it and send the result of what they did to Volvo. Then Volvo tells the garage what to do as the next step, etc, etc, ...
That procedure takes a LOT, LOT, LOT of time !-((

And , after 3 weeks of investigation (and Volvo prodecure ...) they still don't know where is the problem.

Does anyone here had the same start problem with his XC90 ?

The techs/mechanics should contact a Volvo engineer for permission to upgrade the software. If you are under warranty contact Corportate to log in problem so if future problems arise you would still be covered for same issue

You should be getting a loaner and the Red Carpet from Volvo

My '05 2.5T wouldn't start once and it was because the antenna immobilizer unit had gone bad (first they told me it was a software problem, then it turned out to be a hardware problem). Don't know if that helps...

the fact that the starter turns means its not the immobilizer. Also means that the cem and ecm and bcm got power and working ok (thus software loaded ok in them) as immobilizer pin codes have cleared.

I would love to have more info on this problem.
Bet it turns out to be wiring, bad injectors or wrong fuel or something silly like that.


struggle to see what would take 3 weeks to sort unless they cant get a part as backorder.

Have they checked the fuel and ignition system ?
