i had issues with my s40 t5. is only 1 1/2 year old (sept 2006) T5.

problems starting the car.... i go to the dealer for the 30,000 km maintenance and they found a damaged battery.

they replaced and I need to pay 60% of the battery cost. Here on mexico the car only have 2 years of warranty and the battery 1 year and the remaining year the warranty if needed volvo pay one % and I pay another % (depending on how many months). This is crazy, I switch cars every two years to have a "fail free" car and I only pay and pay and pay to volvo for brakes, tires & batteries.

is this normal? they say the car have 11 computers draining power even when off but this is out of all logic! how is this possible?

any ideas? they check the alternator and any parasit power drain and everything is ok.

please advise. very dissapointed with the s40. definitely my last volvo.

:cat: Hi there cm2gj.

Your story does not make nice reading. However, it sounds as if you are fairly hard on cars.

You say you pay for:

brakes
tyres
and
batteries.

If you've had the car for 18 months-you must be doing seriously high mileage or you are a very hard driver. You have not told us what sort of mileage you travel each week or year. I notice that you have not mentioned how much petrol you use.

Is there something else I've missed?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Cheers :right:

Thanks for the reply and sorry for the delay. I changed about 4 tires but this is because the streets here at Mex are horrible.

Brakes with 32,000km I changed once.... correcting my post, I believe is not bad.

I drove very agressive but this do not affect battery life!!!!

make sure you check the battery water regularly and if it is very low add acid instead of water. This will help the life of the battery. I also turn inside lights (ceiling) off, since it stays on for some times when you turn the car off or open the doors. I agree with you that the batteries are very low quality compare to German/European cars (Audi, BMW, Benz). :)

I don't believe the ceiling lights have a negative effect on the battery, is a very low consupmtion there... the problem is the battery itself (and i believe we cannot add more water or acid to this kind of batteries).

I had an accord v6 for 3 1/2 years and never had a single issues with the battery or anything else.

I love the volvo and how runs / comfortable is, but the quality of some components (battery, brakes and tires) and very bad. And maintenance / part prices are the worst!. warranty time here in mx is stupid too (2 years, 1 year for battery and suspension) when other brands have 3 ~ 5 years!!!

I will never purchase another volvo for sure... I will keep my volvo s40 (2006) for 2 more years (if I sell the volvo now, who cost me 40,000 usd now will receive 25,000 usd only) and after that, I will go for a SUV (with turbo of course!) like the Accura RDX or Mazda CX7....

Regards!,
