Hello everyone! I've never owned a Volvo before, but just bought a 1996 960. I love it! I need to replace the timing belt because it's at 140000 miles now. Any tips for a newbie? I am mechanically inclined, so I am not worried about doing it myself, but I'm sure there are some veterans who might have some good advice and tips. I welcome them! Thanks!

Greetings P_man,

I also live in GA (Atlanta area) and have a 96 960.

Best advise I can give you is to ensure you have a good Volvo mechanic. I can hook you up with my mechanic. He, for the most part, specializes in Volvos and provides reasonable rates.

I guess the best compliment I can give is that I have full trust in him when it comes to taking care of my ride.

KW Auto Repair
S. Cobb Drive
I believe his shop is in Smyrna - Maybe Marrietta

** Just saw that you do your own work. Well good luck to ya. Will certainly save ya some green.

Hi All,
I was going to start a new thread, but saw this one and decided to jump in (since I was going to say just about the same things anyway :) )

I just brought home a new-to-me 95 960. One owner, 185k, and in really good shape. It looks like it needs one new headlight assembly, one turn lens in the front, and the grill is loose. The paint is starting to fade a bit, too. Got it for $1250 in North Carolina. Flew down there from New England and drove it home. And not a single hiccup the entire way!

I gassed it full, and drove it exactly 500 miles non-stop before the low fuel light came on. That looks to me like 25MPG. Beats my two Ford trucks all to death in the mileage department!

Anyway - just thought I'd pop in and say hello!
