Hi,
Newbie here. Thanks in advance for any help offered. I need to replace driver side sun visor in my '97 850. The visor plate unscrewed easy enough, but the electric for the vanity light will not disengage, so the visor cannot not be diconnected. It looks like the visor is snapped into the plate that screws into the ceiling, but it doesn't seem to be able to be snapped out.

Can I just cut the wiring? I don't really care about the vanity light, I just want a working visor instead of one that hangs into my view.

I thought it would be such a simple thing, and the dealer wanted $115 labor to replace. Now I'm regretting trying to do it myself.

Any insight would be appreciated

Regards.
Joe

Pull the roof lining downwards. There're 'clips' that hold the roof lining in place. Trace the wiring for the vanity light there.

I can trace the wire, but where does it lead? I pulled on it to see if it would come off but it didn't. It frustrating because it seemed so simple, and now I may have to spend the exorbident labor to have it installed. I can't even separate the plate from the visor. As I said the visor is snapped into the plate. I'll be interested to see what parts I get and how they are assembled.

Back to another question I had. Can I cut the wire, without getting a shock and/or damaging thew electrical system?

Regards.
Joe

if poss, get one from a breaker, then you can just scavenge the parts that you need. undo, the battery, remember your radio codes, and just snip away. good luck and don't worry about the fire and the smoke, we all went through that

Of course you can. Just make sure to properly secure the new wires in, when you put in the new thang.

No, sir.
