Can anyone tell me how to replace the cabin pollen filter? I purchased a new one and I'm not sure how to install. I gather it sits inside the car under the dash, but where?

you need to remove the CEM (fusebox under dash) and bracket then you can remove the cover for the pollen filter on the climate unit via th three 7mm head screws, bit of a pain.

the first thing you need to do is decide if you really want to do this. I do it for a living and have done a ton and hate them. you need to be on the driver side.

1. you need to remove the big panle thats under the steering wheel. to do this you need to take the panle off from behind the radio. there are 3 T25 screws.
2. once thats done you need to take the gas pedal....thats right the gas pedal. there 3 10mm bolts one on bottem and 2 on top. once its unbolted disconnect the gas pedal.
3. once the gas pedal is out pull the carpet back on the right hand side of the were the pedal was and you sould see a black cover panel with 4 little 7mm screws. take those out and pull the cover off and you will see the filter.
4. to put it back to gether just reverse.

man. i'm tired just typing it out...
hope it helps

Ahh I forget that you boys have the steering wheel on the wrong side ha ha. Thought it was bad over in UK that we have to remove CEM, you boys have it even worse!. Very bad design.

YEA. I think when Ford got a hold of the S40 they got every thing in place and forgot that volvos have cabin filters... so they found the only empty space left behind the dash was right next to the gas pedal. kinda like a after thought.
oh well... still pays ok

Good guide, thank you very much.
I just replaced my cabin filter and have some comments to share.

Yes, I am a newbie and can say you that it is a hard work but with the right tools you can do it.

I mainly used a 1/2" ratchet, u-joints and extention bars.

The lateral dash panel (with the conditioner air hole to the door) can be dismounted just pulling it out. Do the same with the panel back the radio.
Be careful, my car has a sensor in this panel, may be you have to disconnect this sendor to remove the panel.

Doing this first facilitate dismounting the driver side panel.

Be careful with the courtesy light in the driver side panel. You must disconnect the cable.

The gas pedal has a connector, you can disconnect it from the pedal to remove it completly.

To insert the filter you must fold it.

I hope this helps.
(Excusez-moi for my english)

Regards.

Thank you for this!!! I would have just done it at my next service but couldn't wait that long. My filter was really dirty and stunk. So thank you!
It was pretty cramped and took about an hour to change but other than that it was ok. I probably won't do it again unless i really need to.
