SO I've got this 92 240 sedan that was running pretty darn well for a change. The other night my wife went to drive it and it wouldn't start. I got in it the next afternoon and it started right up! It's been really wet here lately so I figured I'd replace the wires and distributer cap/rotar. When I was done, it would not start. This morning, it started right up, sounds fine. Two hours later it will not start. I checked the ignition codes and got 2-1-4, "Speed sender signal missing or sender faulty" Anyone know what it is and where it is, and does it go by another name. I looked at Autozone online and can find a Vehicle speed sensor, but I don't know it thats the same thing. VLVWorld has a crankshaft speed sensor, but no picture, so I can't compare it to Autozones. Thanks for any and all help!

Outstanding! Thank you, looks like the one from Autozone, only less money :) Ok, now I have the what and where, even though I don't see it yet when I look at the car. Should I be looking down from the engine compartment to replace this, or from under the car? Sorry to be such a simpleton, trying to teach myself some of this as I go with this car.

It's on the top of the bell housing behind the engine. Access from the top between the engine and the firewall. You can feel it with your left hand, or you can see it. You can't see it and feel it at the same time. I think it's a 10mm hex, two bolts.

Don't break the bracket the sensor is mounted to. If so, you will need to drop the tranny.

Post back.

I ordered the part last night, and I'll let you know how I made out. Sounds kinda scary for a newbie like me that if I screw up the tranny will need to be dropped!

Yaaaa, ok. I got the part, and I can feel it, but I can only get one finger on the bolt that holds it on. Going to have a buddy look at it this weekend and see if he can get at it, he's a mechanic so he might have some better ideas. BTW, when I got home today, it was gone. A little while later my wife drove up in it. I asked her if she had any problems, and she said no, since I had fixed it already right? It started every time I tried this afternoon, and she ran all over town today in it. Guess it's just getting flakey, it's not shot completely yet. Gonna have my buddy try to change it anyway.
