Hello All,

I have both read and posted previous messages about a Check Engine Light caused by a coolant error. I took one posters advice and purchased a Wahler thermostat. I now have two questions: (1) could someone give me quite explicit directions on how to replace the thermostat myself (2) tell me where and how much I can purchase a sensor?

Thanks much in advance!

Drain the coolant down about 1/2 way. Good luck getting to the radiator drain **** because it's all the way down on the bottom of the radiator passenger side. Be careful not to lose any of the drained coolant, you can't use regular prestone etc, you need volvo coolant which i found out is 22 bucks a gallon.

Do you know where the thermostat is? If you follow the top radiator hose from the radiator to the engine, the neck the hose attaches to is the thermostat housing. You will see 2 or 3 bolts, if i remember correctly I think they are torx bolts. Remove the bolts and pull off the housing. You don't even need to remove the hose you can leave it attached to the housing. The thermostat just sits in there. Remove it, drop the new one in, make sure there is no old rubber gasket stuck anywhere, put the housing back in place, replace the bolts, refill the coolant, take it for a ride, done.

It's best to start it and let it run as you refill the coolant, it will fill easier. Just be sure to get the cap on before it starts to get hot.

I honestly wouldn't waste time or money to change the temp sensor. I highly doubt it has anything to do with your problem. You will also need to get your check engine code erased, it won't go off by itself.
