QUOTE(Ryan 20 @ May 8 2008, 01:10 AM)
The ABS bulb Im sure is blowed / burned out and if your abs module is not working the speedo wont work If your wheels lock when you slam the brakes then your ABS Module is not working and you need to send it in to get rebuilt
Heres a good place to send it to.
http://home.earthlink.net/~vicrocha/Volvo_...lvo_V70_ABS.htm

These are some symptoms of a defective ABS unit:

1996 - 1998 850, C70, S70, V70 and V70XC (Includes all the variations)

The ABS and TRACS (If you have TRACS) lights will turn ON and stay ON for some time, sometimes the light will turn OFF. The longer you experience the problem, the longer the lights will stay ON. If you drive the car for a long time with a defective ABS unit, the speedometer will eventually stop working intermittently.
The problem will be more noticeable during hot weather or when the ABS or TRACS system is used.
Sometimes the ABS system will activate by itself (You will hear the pump and the valves activating) when going over a bump or rough road, you may also feel vibration on the brake pedal.

now im pretty sure the ABS is not working <_<

You can remove the ABS module and start working on it slowly, or send it for rebuilding. Yes, the car is movable without the ABS module. No problem, just remember that you dont have the ABS function at the time, so, forget late braking or test-brakings, OK?

:)

Cheer up, bro. Things could have been worse.

The E5 torx socket is sold at most hardware stores, dude. You'll need that.

please use the e5, don't try with anyting else, since you will just mess up the screws. not that i would know something like that. no, not me......okay, so i did not use the e5 socket. so i had to have the screws cut off and get new ones. it was a learning experience. like everything else that i have done with my cars and bikes.

if there is no light, probably works. if you turn off traction, does the light come on? if it does, your abs is okay. probably jst a speedo gear. fcpgroton.com has them for like 40 cents. or something like that.

you have to open the unit, and add solder to the big heat sinks. you heat up the heatsinks and keep adding solder. of course, i tried that and completely screwed up because of course, being the greek, i had the unit the wrong way and realised too late that i was heating up the wrong side. doooooooohhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!. oh well. hey big bear, what was that i said about experience? when i finally come over there, you have mine and mrs permission to kick me in the butt. what is that old adage of measure twice cut once. well, with me it's cut, bang, hit, then realise that the piece you need wasn't what you were hitting. more pieces for recycling. man, i am a mean GREEN machine. al gore loooooooves me.
