QUOTE(seanmc87 @ Mar 28 2008, 04:17 AM)
should solve the speedo problem.... there are instructions somewhere for a self fix and show you how to soilder the abs unit not sure if its this site or not. but you can send it out for a fix.

it will make your speedo work again and abs and tracs.
http://home.earthlink.net/~vicrocha/Volvo_...lvo_V70_ABS.htm

look there for instructions on removal and that guy will also repair for you if you want.
self diaog unit is under the hood behind driver side headlamp its a box you need to remove the cover and pull jumper wire out of the holder...inserting it in different positions and pressing the button will read for different parts of car ... transmission/engine/ignition etc (light flashes) im sure some one has written up about the codes etc so search for "diagnostic"
sean

thanks will have it checked with a certified volvo electrician coz im not an expert on soildering stuff

your speedo gear might be going.  there is a kit from fcpgorton.com that will fix your speedo.  now if your abs/trac is going, that will also cause the speedo to act all wonky.  in the abs/trac light on?  i can't seem to get a grasp on any of your replies, except for the bear.  the o ring that the mechanic installed, did he replace the thermostat also?  so you have the socket under the coin slot in front of your shifter?  if not, then you will have to read the codes from the black boxes under the hood.  do any codes come up when you read from the obdII socket?  there should be a basic no fault code.  if nothing comes up on the reader, then youmust have them read from the box.

no abs n trac light. mechanic did not replace thermostat. he just added another o ring for the cap because the old one is already damaged. yes' i do have an OBD2 socket. no faults were found. will try to read it fro the box. . .

ampangbear car here in the Philippines are LHD's  :)
i have an OBD2 reader but no error codes were found. :???:
weird right?

Oh, OK. Sorry. I was there for close to 3 months in 2006, and i thought i remembered the cars were RHD. maybe i was imagining things.

Not really weird. Just that the part that's faulty isnt hooked up. Like the fuel-pump and the fuel-pump relay or the fuel-pump regulator, for instance.

The OBD2 system offers more superior detection as compared to the OBD1, but it is by no means the COMPLETE detection system. (We'll prolly need to wait a little longer for the Star Wars technology to filter through to the vehicles market, where we can get a driveshaft just by pointing Data's gun to the floor, and VOILA! A drive shaft! Eh, wait want that fixed up? Sure thing. *bzzzzt* VOILA! All fixed.) - ehem, sorry, got a little carried away there...

So, coming back to yours, i guess just need to look further...

BTW, if you have the OBD2 port, chances are that you wont have the box. And i dont know how could it possible to have both factory-fitted (Just before that guy shows up again, and claims that he has BOTH...)
:)

will this solve the speedometer prob after rebuilding the module?

If the speedometer gear is broken, as Greek said, it could affect the reading. But if the ABS module is also broken, then it could also affect the speedometer. This is experienced myself... Many years back when i first got the ABS light on.

But your ABS lights are NOT on, right?
Have you checked if the bulbs are ok? --> One way to do this, is by putting the key in PosII where all the lights on the dash is supposed to come on.

ABS n trac are not on when in pos2. maybe busted or volvo technicians removed the bulbs. its hard to replace bulbs have to remove the dash first. takes a lot of time n i might screw up.

How did you repair your speedo?

order the gears from fcpgroton.com there are two of them. the first is the one that is broken the second....well, since it's open might as well change the second. it's not a hard job, just a little pain in the patootie. there are instructions included which are well thought out. does your abs work when you slam on the brakes? how about the traction control? turn off and see if the light comes on or if the wheels spin alot. then you would know if in fact it is effed up. do you know how to read from the obd! sockets? there are threads on the 850 forum that i had posted and i think bear did also. if not, just post back and i'll walk you through it.

how would i know if the abs are working?

codes will come out from the reader right? like for example 111 there's a specific explanation for that code right? i have no list of obd codes.

If you slam on the brakes do your wheels lock up ? If they lock up then your ABS is not working test the tracs to by doing what it says in the above post.

And what year is the car ?

No its not. Its easier than you think. OK, putting/refitting the dash pad may need a little patience, but its very doable. The threads are all here in this forum, help yourself.

Check the bulbs first. I am betting 1 philippine peso that at least 1 of your 2 bulbs are on.

My speedo problem? I changed the ABS module. And everything was nice and dandy again. I got conned into paying a crazy price for it too, never again (at least not from the same 'established Volvo premier dealer' lah.) HAHA

It IS easier and the parts are waaaaaaaaaaaayyyy cheaper than the V ones. For instance, just yesterday, the ciggie-lighter went kaput, and i got a NEW cigarette lighter + assembly casing replacement for RM8. A USED Volvo one of the same thang would set me back like RM15. USED.

Hehehe.

And plus, its a stick/manual so, i thrash it as much as i want to. Its light so, it flies off the ramp like a mouse with a cat on its back. Its lowered with performance springs so i do a lot of hard cornerings as much as i can. All the bushings are gone so the ride is in no way pleasant. HAHA. PLUS, it's not even a V-tec. Imagine that.

Hey, what am i doing?
Someone SPANK ME!
