Hello All,

For the first time ever, when I started my 2001 S40 and pulled it out of the driveway, a dashboard light with an upward pointing arrow lit up. As I had never seen this light before, I pulled over and turned off the car. After waiting 5 minutes, I started the car again and began driving and the arrow light was off. That was one day ago and it hasnt shown up again. Has this happened to anyone else? What does it mean? Should I be worried or is there anything I should do?

Thanks!

Was your ABS light on also? The arrow is the tracs light, I think. If the ABS module is going bad you usually get the tracs light and the ABS light on intermittently. If that is the problem you can get the ABS module rebuilt.

Thanks for the suggestion jks. The ABS light was not on. A week on and I havent seen the arrow light back on yet. Maybe (hopefully) it was a fluke.

I would think computer glitch. I have had my Airbag light stay on one time, my arrow stay on one time, the security immobilizer light stayed on one time, and the abs light stay on one time. HA HA! Each problem only happened once, and all I did was turn the car off start it back up, and it was fixed. Never did it again.

Now if I could only get rid of my check engine code P0015 It would be great.

If you have an automatic transmission, with a weather package, you may have hit the "W" button next to the Gear selector. Or you could have put the transmission into 4 instead of drive. You may try if and see if it repeats what you saw. I am guessing that when you started the car the second time you did not hit the "W" button. I noticed it with my car.

Hey, I think I just cleared a P0015 - been 5 days now and still out. Usually 2 days and it would return.

Background: 2004 S40

Bought the vehicle used (high mileage but excellent shape). The guy was able to show a thorough maintainance history which indicated oil changes at the recommended intervals. When I took ownership, about 2 years ago, I switched to Mobil 1 at the first change. I don't know if that has anything to do with this story but - it is what it is.

Still run M1 - really believe in it.

Anyway, about a year ago got a CEL. Just let it be for a while and then had to deal with it at the last state inspection. Foremost was a P0128 - changed the cheapest part first - thermostat. Nothing. Engine coolant temp sensor did the trick and thought that was it. Coolant temp sensor trouble is 0155 or somethng close to the 0015.

I'm getting there, bear with me.

Coolant trouble is satisfied but now I have the 0015 = CMP = cam position sensor trouble. Checked all wiring and made a thorough inspection of the exterior of the sensor - all OK. Car runs fine, gets better than the posted mileage and has great pickup.

Answer, I think, was sludge in the lube oil system. Specifically in that boss that the CMP sits in. It appears to be at a dead end in the lube oil system. Any interference between the pickup on the sensor and the rotating magnet on the end of the cam will knock it out of whack.

The fix - and don't laugh - Seafoam. I put a pint in her crankcase last Friday cleared the CEL and kept my fingers crossed. Today was day 5 and still no CEL so I dumped the M1/Seafoam mix and I'll tell you what. That filter element looked like hell. I mean, it was loaded with particulates - and remember this car been driven hard but well maintained. The Seafoam apparently flushed her lube oil system sufficiently to dislodge whatever was blocking the interface at the CMP. But,and here's the good news - it apparently did it without causing any external leaks (just did a good inspection while changing the oil and not a drop or stain in sight).

That's my theory and I'm sticking with it!

Jerry

BTW -when I say, her, it refers to my wife.
