I just ordered a 2008 Volvo XC70 with DVD navigation. I understand that Volvo just changed the system (apparently only on the XC70) that uses DVD. To change from USA DVD to European DVD, you only have to buy the appropriate DVD.

However, I understand that European DVd has no voice function? Anyone know of this problem and when Volvo thinks they will have a fix?

mmm, im sure that navigation system on new models now come with a harddrive that contains all market maps in them, thus no disc (i will check and update soon). At some point the desired market map has to be selected to initilise the system and then the other market maps on the harddrive are erased leaving only the desired market map in the system. Unsure at what point this initilisation is done.

I believe if it is a harddrive system then at no point should you try to install a different marketcode dvd into the unit as this will corupt the harddrive and will not be covered under warrenty.

As im in the uk I cannot be sure this info is applicable to the USA market.

The 2008 model year c30, s40, v50 and c70 and the 2007 onwards xc90 have a harddrive navigation system and the 2008 xc70 still uses disc,s.
After installing a european dvd there is now software to allow you to sort the voice function, this software is already availible.

I can make you a copy of the european one.....
