I have a 1.8 lt 440 with auto transmission. Travelled 34,000 miles and regularly service by dealer. The car has developed a whining noise which has got louder over the last 24 hours. The noise is very obvious even under slight acceleration but disappears under deceleration. Road noise kills the noise at high speed but I think it is still there. When stopped at idle or when reved no noise can be held. Auto trans seems to be working fine although it does bang when placed into gear while cold, once under way and when warm it works fine. When placed in reverce and accelerating no whine is heard. It does not appear to be a belt squeek. Any one had any experience with this problem or suggestions ?
